Day 1 - LIMA

Arrival in Lima and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2 - LIMA

We start with a morning visit to one of Lima’s emblematic markets, offering up an amazing variety of fish, fruit, and vegetables used in Peruvian cookery. You will be equipped with a list of names and descriptions of foods to enhance the experience even more. Afterwards, a chef will demonstrate how to prepare Peru’s main dishes and teach you how to make an exquisite cebiche or the famous lomo saltado (sautéed tenderloin strips and french fries). A delicious lunch will round out this fascinating culinary experience. This evening, enjoy a Lima-style pub crawl to three traditional downtown bars and taverns. All 3 share intriguing histories spanning more than 100 years. Raise a Pisco Sour or another typical cocktail in a toast as you listen to tales of long ago. (one cocktail included per bar) (B,L)

Day 3 - LIMA

We start out in Lima’s historic center and its old streets lined with colonial mansions and Moorish balconies. First stop is Plaza Mayor, seat of the Government Palace, the Archbishop's Palace and City Hall. The visit also includes the Santo Domingo Convent, a 17th century jewel and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Archbishop’s Palace, a beautiful building brimming with art from the 16th through the 19th centuries. Our last stop is the Larco Museum, a private collection showcasing ancient Peruvian treasures covering more than 5,000 years of Peruvian history through over 45,000 pieces of art. Lunch at a local gourmet restaurant. Round trip transfers and guide to go to a 5-star local restaurant (cost of lunch not included). You will also have time to visit Indian Market, where you can acquire excellent Peruvian ceramics, textiles and other handicrafts. Return to the hotel. (B)

In the morning, transfer to Lima airport to board your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, begin your full day tour, heading first for Pisac. On the way, we’ll stop at Awanakancha, a camelid farm with typical Andean animals: alpacas, llamas, guanacos, and vicunas. Here you learn how the Indigenous people use plants and natural elements to dye and weave the wool. We will also visit their store stocked with local artisanal handicrafts. Continuing the journey, we reach Pisac, a pretty village brimming with small handicraft shops and host to a famous Sunday market. Next stop is Ollantaytambo, an Incan military, religious, and agricultural center high on a mountain peak. From the top of the archaeological site, we can look down on the town of the same name and see the amazingly narrow streets and canals, unchanged to this day from the time of the Incas. Lunch is included. (B,L)

We start the day by transferring to the train station for a beautiful train ride to the city of Aguas Calientes. Here, we board a bus for a winding road trip and stunning views from every zig and zag. Upon arrival, we visit the Machu Picchu archaeological site, an unforgettable journey through the history of the Inca civilization. Here you will easily comprehend why Machu Picchu is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World! You will also have free time to explore on your own, relax, or meditate. Later on, we will descend to Aguas Calientes for a lovely lunch at a local restaurant. (B,L,D)

Explore Machu Pichu at your own pace, with round trip bus ride and tickets to the Citadel, as well as lunch at El Mapi Restaurant in Aguas Calientes. Afternoon return by scenic Vistadome train. Private transfer to your hotel. (B,L)

Day 7 - CUSCO

At the MAP’S (Pre-Colombian Art Museum) Restaurant, on the beautiful patio of a colonial style home, we will enjoy an in-kitchen demonstration of some of the best Andean style dishes, followed by a delicious lunch in an intimate, sophisticated setting. Get to know the city of Cusco, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, with a style all its own. The tour begins at the Koricancha Temple, an Inca palace and main center for the worship of the sun god, Inti. Once the Spanish had conquered Peru, the Dominican order built a lovely church over this temple’s foundations, the church of Santo Domingo, still thriving today. Your next destination is the Main Square, followed by Sacsayhuaman Fortress, built of massive stone blocks expertly shaped by the Incas and strategically located atop a hill overlooking the city. After drinking in this dazzling view of Cuzco, the tour continues to three archaeological sites: Qenko, Puca-Pucara, and Tambomachay, important religious and administrative centers for the Incas. Finally, you will visit Inka’s Expression, a shop that showcases artists working in silver and painting on wood – a wonderful place to appreciate Andean art. (B,L)

Private transfer to Cusco airport to board your flight back to Lima with connection. (B)
