Begin your adventure in Cienfuegos with an insightful walking tour of this "Pearl of the South," which has been touted as an outstanding example of 19th century urban planning. Here you will have the chance to interact with local residents and business owners as well as join the members of the small Jewish Community of Cienfuegos for lunch and an in-depth discussion of Jewish life in Cuba.

A full-day excursion to the colorful colonial city of Trinidad is planned with a historian-led tour though the well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site, before sitting down to a homemade Cuban lunch at a paladar, a locally-owned restaurant.

Your L'Chaim Cuba journey continues in the country's capital of Havana where you will tour the old city and visit the Orthodox Adath Israel Synagogue, the only shul with a mikvah in Cuba. Next you will meet with the only kosher butcher in Cuba who also acts as the chazan, mohel and schochet of the Jewish community. Then it’s on to Centro Safardi, the Sephardic synagogue, to speak with its community members. On Friday evening the group will attend services at Temple Beth Shalom and take part in Shabbat services, followed by Friday night kiddush and Shabbat dinner with members of the local Jewish community. We will return again Sunday to tour the full center, including its Jewish pharmacy, and meet the children during Hebrew school classes.

A visit to Havana wouldn't be complete without a tour of a cigar factory to see how Cubans are rolled, and a trip to Ernest Hemingway's winter home where the author kept a 9,000-volume library and his yacht, Pilar.

Have breakfast at your hotel then it’s off to explore! Your morning adventure takes you to experience the area’s local talents with a visit to a working cigar factory. Next it’s on to La Casa de La Comunidad Hebrea de Cuba or “El Patronato” Jewish Community Center (Temple Beth Shalom Synagogue) for a guided tour. Here you will have the opportunity to meet with the Community Center’s President, Adele Dworin, the Hadassah leadership and other members of the community center* for an in depth discussion about Jewish Life in Cuba (There are fewer than 1,500 Jews in Cuba, 85 percent of whom live in Havana) At its peak, there were 15,000 Jews and Havana boasted five synagogues and six or seven Jewish day schools. We will also visit the Community Center’s in house pharmacy which fills prescriptions for the entire Jewish community. Let the flavors of Cuban recipes tempt your palate with lunch at La Guarida, a local paladar. Visit the Jewish Cemetery and Holocaust Memorial to the east of Havana before returning to your hotel. Return to your hotel and enjoy an afternoon with plenty of time to explore Havana at leisure. Tonight you will savor a delectable homemade Cuban meal at Paladar Café Laurent. (B,L,D)

After a buffet breakfast at your hotel, embark on a guided walking tour of the pedestrian streets of Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the area’s most famous four plazas, the graphic arts workshop, and other colonial buildings, many of which have been completely restored. A local expert will share insight about Old Havana’s preservation and continuous restoration. Our next stop is the Orthodox Adath Israel Synagogue, the only synagogue that houses a mikvah in Cuba. Then venture along to Cuba’s only Kosher Butcher shop. Take a break for lunch in the “Garden of Eden” restaurant at the Hotel Raquel. The interior of the hotel reveals the poignant reference to Jewish culture underscored by paintings with biblical themes by contemporary Cuban artists. The elegant restaurant here serves typical Jewish cuisine. After a delightful lunch embark on a guided tour of Havana’s Fine Arts Museum – Museo de Bellas Artes. The evening is yours to enjoy on your own with lots of opportunities to discover the local culture via its Paladars, bars and clubs, and awe-inspiring shows – including the world-famous Tropicana. The day’s activities and experiences continue with lunch at Paladar Dorado, a locally owned restaurant serving homemade Cuban dishes. Continue your walking tour before heading back to Cienfuegos. This evening you will experience Shabbat services & a Shabbat dinner at the Sinagoga Cienfuegos. (B,L,D)
