Arrival at Paris' Charles De Gaulle and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure to start exploring on your own the "City of Lights".
Today we depart for Normandy. We first stop in Giverny for a visit of Claude Monet's house and gardens. Sited on the right bank of the Seine, Giverny is known the world over through the paintings of Claude Monet, who lived here from 1883 to his death in 1926. His presence in the village drew numerous artists of different nationalities, who contributed to turning it into a site which even today remains a symbol of Impressionism. Giverny now relives the days when Claude Monet took his inspiration from his gardens, of which he took great care. Facing the house and studio, the Clos Normand displays a breath-taking palette of flowers and colors. The water garden, with its Japanese bridge, water lilies, wisteria and azaleas, recreates the image that so inspired Monet. Overnight in Deauville. (B)
Today we will visit the Landing Beaches where you'll relive the events of the Allied invasion on June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day. After a visit of the battlefields, D-Day museum, Juno Beach Center, and the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, we will continue to Bayeux where we will be overnighting. (B)
Today we visit Mont Saint Michel, one of the wonders of the world. Just off the Normandy coast of France, Mont Saint Michel is a small tidal island rising out of the bay and crowned by a glorious Abbey surmounted by a majestic spire crowned with the golden statue of the Archangel Michael. After the visit we will drive back to Bayeux, for a visit of the Tapestry Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Bayeux tapestry is a medieval century comic-on-cloth, telling the story of William the Bastard's conquest of England and his subsequent ascendancy to the English throne as William the Conqueror in 1066. Overnight in Bayeux. (B)
Today we depart for Amboise, where we will tour the Royal Castle of Amboise, residence of Charles VIII and young Francois d'Angouleme, future Francois I. It's in this Chateau, a perfect example of transition from Gothic to Renaissance, that Leonardo Da Vinci arrived in 1516 and spent the remaining three years of his life living and working in the nearby Chateau du Clos Luce. Overnight in Amboise. (B)
Today we leave Amboise. We stop en-route for a visit of the Chateau de Chambord the first Chateau of the Valley to be proclaimed by UNESCO as a world heritage. It was ordered in 1519 by King Francis 1st to his architects with the presumed help of his friend Leonardo Da Vinci. With its 400 rooms and over 300 chimneys, Chambord is a jewel of the French Renaissance. Continue to Versailles, for a visit of the Chateau de Versailles, which has been on UNESCO's World Heritage list for 30 years and one of the most beautiful achievements of 18th-century French art. The site began as Louis XIII's hunting lodge before his son Louis XIV - the Sun King - transformed and expanded it, moving the court and government of France to Versailles in 1682. See the Grand Apartments of the King and Queen and their most emblematic achievement - the Hall of Mirrors - designed by Mansart. After visiting the magnificent gardens we resume our journey to Paris. Overnight in Paris. (B)
Today we start with a panoramic tour of Paris that will introduce you to the most famous sites, such as Les Invalides, Orsay Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Hotel de Sully, Bastille, Hotel de Ville, Opera, Madeleine, Tuileries Garden, Place de la Concorde, Champs-Elysees, Arc of Triomph, Trocadero, and Eiffel Tower. This afternoon you will be enjoying a guided tour of the Louvre Museum, nowadays, the most visited and biggest museum of the capital, exhibiting over 35,000 pieces, consisting of works predating 1848, distributed among 8 departments: Oriental antiquities, Egyptian antiquities, Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities, Islamic art, Sculpture, Art objects, Painting and Graphic Arts. In its silent poetic performance we find participants such as the Sphinx or the sarcophagi by the side of many a worldwide known masterwork: Leonardo da Vinci's 'Gioconda', Veronese's 'Wedding at Cana', the Venus de Milo or 'The Coronation of Napoleon I'. Overnight in Paris. (B)
Morning transfer to airport for your return flight home. (B)
