HUAYLLABAMBA

Early in the morning you will head

Km 82 from where you will continue along the Urubamba River to

the first archaeological site "Llaqtapata". After lunch continue into

the side valley starting to gain altitude until you get to the last village

named Huayllabamba where you will camp for the night. (L,D)

DAY 2

PACAYMAYO

After breakfast start

climbing up to the first pass "Warmiwañusca" (4,200 Mt/14,200 Ft).

The climb will take most of the morning. From here you will descend

for about 2 hours into the valley to our next camp "Pacaymayo".

DAY 3

We start in the morning with

the ascent of the second pass "Runcuracay" (3900 Mt/ 13'800 Ft)

and descend on the other side for about 2 hours to the beautiful

archaeological site "Sayacmarca". Continue on the original stone

path of the Incas to "Phuyupatamarca" (3800 Mt/ 13'600 Ft). With

good weather we have spectacular views of the surrounding snow

peaks and the valley below. Then downhill to our camp at

"Wiñaywayna". (B,L,D)

DAY 4

Early morning,

after a tasty breakfast, you will hike another 2 hours through cloud

forest to the famous sun gate "Intipunku" from where you have

breathtaking view of Machu Picchu. A short walk brings you down to

the site. Enjoy a 2 tour of the citatel. Descend by bus to Aguas

Calientes. Board the EXPEDITION train back to Ollantaytambo and

transfer by bus to Cusco (B)

Approximate Walking Time: 2 hours

Note: The campsite for the third night of the Inca Trail might be at either

Wiñaywayna or Phuyupatamarca, depending on vacancies confirmed by the

National Institute of Culture.
