Winner of the Ecotourism Award from the World Congress on Tourism and the Environment, La Selva Amazon Ecolodge & Spa s is located on the lake of Garzacocha, in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The La Selva Jungle Lodge offers 17 comfortable cabanas of native design, a spacious bar, and an excellent cuisine, which is the pride of the lodge. The numerous excursions offered are handled by English speaking guides. La Selva is home to many trails, a 135 foot observation tower, and a large butterfly farm. The adventures are limitless. Deep in the jungle, with an unparalleled biodiversity, La Selva provides lodging in a paradise where anything is possible.

MATAPALO TRAIL: This trail was named after the Spanish name of the famous Strangler fig (Ficus aurea) one of many e trees that you see during this short introductory walk, when your native and naturalist guides will start to share part of their knowledge about flora and fauna of the tropical rain forest.

NIGHT WALK: a flashlight and a camera will be the only things you will need to enjoy all of the insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals that you might see during an hour walk in the darkness of the forest.

NIGHT CANOE RIDE IN GARZACOCHA LAGOON: With the help of a spotlight, your guides will take you in a paddle canoe around the lagoon looking for caimans, boas, bats, owls, night mammals and more nocturnal wildlife.

DAY CANOE RIDE IN GARZACOCHA LAGOON: A 1 1/2 to 2 hour canoe ride will let you observe the biodiversity around the Garzacocha lagoon, where the famous Hoatzin Stink bird can be seen as well as some fish CHAGUMANGO TRAIL: Trail begins at the lodge and finishes at the edge of the lake. At the end of the walk head back to the lodge or board the canoe. If lucky, you might see big troops of squirrel monkeys

Charapa Trail: This trail lasts about one and a half hours, starts at the butterfly farm and ends on the edge of the lake.. Along the way we will look for different groups of mammals, monkeys and birds that get close to the lakeshore to look for food. Enjoy a beautiful sunset from the canoe.

OBSERVATION TOWER: A 20 minute walk will lead you to the 120 feet tower. Observing with a telescope will enable you to see birds from the canopy, and maybe even monkeys or sloths. On the way back we hike for about 2 hours.

PARROT CLAY LICK: Visit the most biologically diverse spot on Earth, the Yasuni National Park. A 20 minute canoe ride plus a 15 minute walk will bring you back to the Napo River. Shortly you will enjoy one of the most amazing displays of the wild world. Hundreds of parrots and parakeets will approach the treetops and later come down to a clay bank to eat the soil rich in minerals. It is essential to have binoculars to enjoy the experience. The motorized canoe ride will continue for approximately 30 more minutes of bird watching along the river banks.

CULTURAL ACTIVITY: an Amazonian Kichwa family will receive you in their home. Visit their garden called a “chacra”, followed by a visit in their house to show you a part of the Amazonia that you will not find on the maps or in the books

BUTTERFLY FARM: See each of the different stages of the butterfly complemented with interesting information provided by your naturalist guide.

PIRANHA FISHING: Catch – release. Fishing lines will be provided. Catch your own piranha. However, keep in mind that as an eco-lodge the fish caught must be returned to the lake.

SNACK FESTIVAL: enjoy your favourite beer or cocktail after an afternoon excursion accompanied by snacks.

Day 1 - QUITO I LA SELVA A

La Selva representative will be at the airport in Quito to assist you. After a 30 minute flight to Coca, transfer to the dock of the Hotel La Mision on the shore of the Napo River. An amazing 2:30 hour fluvial journey in a motorized canoe, followed by a short 15 minute jungle walk and you board a small fiber glass canoe for a short ride across “Garzacocha” in order to reach the lodge area. Now you will hear about all the activities available and choose the ones you want to join. (B,D)

Day 2 - LA SELVA

The activities are designed in accordance to the number of groups at the lodge, weather, facilities, logistics and specific season of the year. We offer a certain number of activities that will be provided in different schedules for each group. (B,L,D)

After an early breakfast you will leave the Selva Lodge on the same way you came: a canoe ride, followed by a short walk, and then a two-hour ride on the motorized canoe to Coca. Once you reach Coca transfer to the airport where you will take your flight for your next destination. (B)
