Day 1 Depart USA

Overnight flight to Porto, Portugal.



Day 2 Porto

Arrive at Porto Airport where you will be met and taken to your hotel. You will have the remainder of the day at leisure.



Day 3 Porto/Viana do Castelo/Santiago de Compostela

After breakfast, pick up your car rental and take the scenic route to the border. Enjoy a leisurely break in the Costa Verde before crossing into Spain. Continue to Santiago de Compostela with spectacular views of the Rias Baixas, famous for its excellent white wines. Check in to your hotel for the evening. (B)



Day 4 Santiago de Compostela

Spend the day familiarizing yourself with this Celtic UNESCO World Heritage city by walking the charming streets of Santiago's Old Quarter toward the main square and visit the Cathedral where St. James the Apostle is said to be buried. In the evening, we recommend dinner at a local restaurant where you can try some of the local cuisine and white wines of the region. (B)



Day 5 Santiago/Braga/Guimaraes/Porto

After breakfast, continue your exploration heading south to the medieval Portuguese town of Barcelos, ceramics center of Portugal. Afterwards, continue to Portugal's ancient capital city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Guimaraes. Visit the medieval castle featuring 90 foot towers. Afterwards, head towards Porto where you can drop off your car and proceed to your hotel for your overnight stay. (B)



Day 6 Porto

Your day features a full day excursion into the Douro valley, the ancient and distinguished area of Portugal's Port wine. Stop at Amarante to taste delicious pastries before continuing to Regua (capital of Port wine) for a visit to a local wine producer farm where lunch is included. After lunch stop at the aristocratic palace of Solar Mateus for a visit and return to Porto for the evening. (B,L)



Day 7 Porto

Today enjoy a full day tour of Porto including lunch at a lively restaurant. Highlights include Batalha square, San Francisco Church, the Porto Stock Exchange Palace and Vila Nova de Gaia area, where you'll visit a local port wine lodge and sample some local port wine. (B,L)



Day 8 Porto to USA (or extend your stay)

After breakfast, you will be taken to the airport for your return flight to the USA, arriving the same day. (B)
