Afternoon arrival in Mykonos with time to discover the town, dotted with hundreds of tiny chapels, whitewashed windmills and narrow streets. We sail in the evening. Day 6 Cruise (Kusadasi/Patmos) Morning arrival in Kusadasi, Turkey, located nearby Ephesus, one of the 'Seven Wonders of the Ancient World'. Here an important optional excursion takes you to Mt. Koressos, where it is believed the Virgin Mary spent her last days. The Christian world favors this belief and the Vatican has sanctioned this site for pilgrimage. In this area there are also the remains of the Great Theater, the largest of antiquity with capacity of 24,000 seats, where St. Paul preached and spent two years of his ministry. Just outside Ephesus, you will view the Basilica of St. John, erected over his grave in the 6th century. In the afternoon, sail to Patmos, site of the Monastery of St. John the Divine, built within the walls of a strong fortification 900 years ago. Continue to the Grotto of the Apocalypse and the Monastery of the Apocalypse above it. Evening departure for Rhodes. Day 7 Cruise (Rhodes) Morning arrival in Rhodes, known as the Island of Roses, famed for its Medieval Old Town and ancient site of the Colossus of Rhodes. Optional tour of the Temple of Athena atop the majestic Acropolis of Lindos. From the Acropolis marvel at the breathtaking views of the great expanse of the Aegean Sea and St. Paul Bay, where the apostle cast anchor during his historic voyage to Ephesus. From to July mid-September you may also have an optional visit the Valley of Butterflies. Sail in the early evening. Day 8 Cruise (Crete/Santorini) Morning arrival at Greece's largest island, Crete. An optional excursion is available to the Palace of Knossos, designed at the request of King Minos to confine the Minotaur, a monster with a man's body and a bull's head. The excursion continues to the Museum in Heraklion. In the afternoon we sail to the spectacular island of Santorini, which Plato believed to be the lost continent of Atlantis. We have time to visit Oia for a magnificent view of the sea and islands offshore. We sail in the evening. Day 9 Cruise/Piraeus/Thessaloniki We arrive in Piraeus in the morning and begin our tour of Northern Greece to Thessaloniki, built in 316 BC. This is where St. Paul the Apostle wrote his letter to the Thessalonians. We visit the Roman Market, Theatre and Baths, the Arch of Galerius, Byzantine churches, the cave and well of Paul the Apostle, House of Jason, statue of Alexander the Great, the archaeological museum. Dinner at the hotel. Day 10 Thessaloniki (Kavala/Philippi) Today we visit the northern port of Kavala (near the site of ancient Philippi). This was the first city on European soil where Paul the Apostle preached his first evangelical sermon, where he wrote the letter to the Philippians and where he baptized the first Christians on European soil. Visit the Baptistry of Lydia, the ancient theater and a crypt dating from the Roman period that is thought to have served as a prison for Paul. Return to Thessaloniki for dinner at the hotel and overnight. Day 11 Thessaloniki/Veria/Kalambaka We depart in the morning for Kalambaka, driving via the Macedonian town of Veria (ancient Berea), where we visit the monument dedicated to Paul. We continue to Kalambaka, a Thessaly town at the foot of breathtaking Meteora. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Day 12 Kalambaka/Meteora/Delphi This morning we visit the famous hanging monasteries built on top of the Meteora, gigantic monoliths, completely isolated from the world around them. Dating back to the 11th century, the rock monasteries are a UNESCO site and house priceless, exquisite specimens of Byzantine art. Subsequently continue to Delphi, ancient home of the Greek god Apollo. Dinner and overnight in Delphi. Day 13 Delphi/Athens Our morning in Delphi begins with a visit of the temple of Apollo, the ancient theatre and museum, housing the famous 474 BC Charioteer of Delphi.
