Day 1 Depart USA Evening departure. Meals and refreshments served on board. Day 2 Lisbon/Santarem/Fatima Morning arrival in Lisbon, where you are met and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a panoramic tour of Lisbon stopping at the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, St. Jeronimo's Monastery and the Belem Tower before driving to Fatima. En route we will stop in Santarem, home of one of the oldest Eucharistic Miracles in the world. We arrive in Fatima in the late afternoon. Check in at the hotel for some rest and dinner. In the evening, we join the Candlelight and Rosary procession. Day 3 Fatima After breakfast we visit the hamlet of Aljustrel, home of the three shepherd children to whom the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared. Continue to Valinhos, where Our Lady appeared in August 1917, after the children were released from prison. Visit the parish church where the children were baptized and the cemetery. Later in the afternoon, visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, including the Basilica with the tombs of Jacinta, Francisco, and Sr. Lucia and the Chapel of the Apparitions (Capelinha). There will be afternoon leisure time for private devotions. Before dinner, we enjoy a video presentation by the Consolata Fathers on the History of Fatima. Dinner and overnight in Fatima. This evening you may again join in the Candlelight and Rosary procession. Day 4 Fatima After Mass, we will walk the Stations of the Cross built by the Hungarian Refugees. The balance of the day is at leisure to shop, revisit sights or private meditation at the Shrine or at one of the two chapels in the Domus Pacis Hotel. Dinner at the hotel and, those so wishing, may join in the Candlelight and Rosary procession. Day 5 Fatima/Pontevedra Depart for Pontevedra, a city long with maritime and trading traditions. It is here Our Lady and the Child Jesus appeared to Lucia, one of the seers, 8 years after the Fatima events. Lucia was now called Sister L�cia and was living in a Dorothean convent. On December 10, 1925, she experienced another apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary asking for the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays of five months. Here, she made the great promise for properly doing five First Saturdays in a row. We will also visit the Monuments of Santa Maria la Mayor, Igrexa de San Francisco and the Ruinas del Convento de Santo Domengo. Dinner at hotel and overnight. Day 6 Pontevedra/Santiago de Compostela After breakfast, we depart for Santiago de Compostela arriving in the morning. We will attend Mass at the 1,000 year old Cathedral and reflect on the Apparition of St. James when the Virgin Mary appeared to St. James in 40AD where he was preaching. She appeared upon a Pillar holding a wooded statue of herself. She gave the pillar and statue to St. James requesting that he build a church in her honor. He built a small chapel to her honor, later it was replaced by a basilica. We will have time to explore St. James Cathedral and pray at the crypt where his relics are enshrined on the altar. The Cathedral Holy Doors will be opened for us to walk through as part of our receiving the special blessing. Dinner at the hotel and overnight. Day 7 Santiago de Compostela After Mass, we will have a full day of city sightseeing. During the Middle Ages, Santiago de Compostela was the most popular pilgrimage destination outside of Rome and Jerusalem. St. James the apostle converted Spain to Christianity. He is the Patron Saint of Spain. He was martyred in 44AD. Our sightseeing will take us to the Church of Santa Maria de Camino and Church of De Las Animas (the Souls) where we will pray for the Souls in Purgatory. Our last stop will be the Church of Santo Domingo. Dinner at the hotel and overnight. Day 8 Santiago de Compostela Full day at leisure to explore Santiago, a city that UNESCO declared a World Heritage Site. You will also have time to 'shop till you drop'. Dinner at the hotel and overnight. Day 9 Santiago de Compostela to USA (or extend your stay) Morning transfer to Santiago de Compostela Airport for your return flight home. Meals and refreshments are served aloft. |
