Day 1 Paris Arrive in Paris and transfer (on your own) to your hotel. The day is at leisure to begin exploring this fascinating city. Your overnight stay is in Paris. Day 2 Paris/Strasbourg Experience the newly inaugurated high-speed train to Strasbourg. Pick up your rental car at the station and drive to the city of Strasbourg. See the European Parliament and the Cathedral and wander around the old quarters of the "Petite - France". Your overnight stay is at the Chateau de L'ile. (B) Day 3 The Wine Road (around 90 miles) After breakfast, enjoy the drive along the Alsatian Wine Road. Some Alsace villages you shouldn't miss are Obernai, Ribeauville, Riquewihr, and Kaysersberg. Visit the Chateau de Haut-Koenigsburg and then continue on to the enchanting city of Colmar. Your overnight stay is at the Chateau d'Isembourg in Rouffach. (B) Day 4 Rouffach/Burgundy (around 190 miles) Depart Alsace and drive to Belfort and the surrounding countryside. Drive on to Montbeliard, Besancon where you'll see brightly colored Renaissance houses that line entire streets. Enjoy the charm of the village and then end the day at the Chateau de Gilly. (B) Day 5 & 6 Burgundy (around 60 miles) Explore the lovely town of Dijon. Known as the City of Art and History, the center of Dijon is one of the most historic and scenic of any major French city. Driving along the Cote de Beaune Grands Crus wine route north of Beaune brings you through villages such as Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny. Visit cellars and enjoy some wine tastings. Continue on to Beaune, a lovely town that contains the Hospices de Beaune museum, one of the finest examples of French 15th architecture. Your overnight stays are at the Chateau de Gilly. (B) Day 7 Burgundy/St. Symphorien (around 180 miles) After breakfast, drive to Vezelay, where the 12th century Benedictine abbey church of Sainte-Marie- Madeleine is located. Continue on to the towns of Auxerre, Nemours and Fontainebleau where you can see the Palais de Fontainebleau, Napoleon's favorite grand chateau. Continue on to St. Symphorien where your overnight stay is at the Chateau d'Esclimont. (B) Day 8 St. Symphorien/Montbazon (around 170 miles) Leave the Chateau d'Esclemont for your first stop of the day in Chartres and visit the gothic cathedral built in the 12th century and famous for its stained glass windows. Drive on to Orleans, famous for St. Joan of Arc. Stop in Blois and see the royal castle, one of the most prestigious Renaissance monuments of France. Continue on to Tours and visit the magnificent cathedral of St. Gatien with its flamboyant Gothic facade and medieval stained glass windows. Your overnight stay is at the Chateau d'Artigny. (B) Day 9 Chambord/Chenonceaux (110 miles) After breakfast, start your day with a stop in Chambord to visit the impressive and majestic Chateau de Chambord. Drive on to the heart of the valley, along the River Cher, where you'll find the most romantic French castle, the Chateau de Chenonceaux. Your overnight stay is at the Chateau d'Artigny. (B) Day 10 Montbazon/Paris Visit the elegant Chateau de Villandry. This residence, the last of the great Loire Valley castles built during the Renaissance, owes its fame to the magnificence of its gardens. Continue on to Azay-le-Rideau, a charming and romantic castle. Drive to Tours train station, where you'll drop off your car and take the TGV high-speed train back to Paris. Your overnight is in Paris. (B) Day 11 Paris The day is at leisure to explore this fascinating city. Delight in Paris' splendors - the Eiffel Tower, Palais Royal, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, the designer shops along the Champs Elysees - a tree-lined beauty, full of elegant cafes, theaters and shops developed by Louis XV. (B) Day 12 Paris to USA (or extend your stay) After breakfast, depart to the airport for your return flight home. (B) |
