Day 1 Depart USA Evening departure. Meals and refreshments served on board. Day 2 Rome Morning arrival at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Airport. Balance of the day is at leisure for you to get acquainted with this magnificent 'Eternal' city. Day 3 Rome Your morning tour reveals Rome's infinite aspects and eras. Drive through Via Cavour and see Piazza della Repubblica with Najads Fountain. Continue on Via Bissolati and Via Veneto (the Rodeo Drive of Rome) and see Palazzo Margherita (seat of the American Embassy), Aurelian Walls (3rd century A.D.), and Piazza Barberini. Pass by the Quirinale Palace, residence of the President of the Italian Republic, then visit the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. Drive past Piazza Navona, Palace of Justice, St. Angel's Castle, and Via della Conciliazione and then visit St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City. Afternoon and evening are free for independent exploration. (B) Day 4 Rome There's a lot to do in Rome. Join in with the cosmopolitan crowds in the sidewalk cafes of Via Veneto. This is the perfect spot to 'people watch' while enjoying a delicious cappuccino. Rome is filled with monuments, museums, fountains, antiques and other sites. Use this free day to discover them on your own. (B) Day 5 Rome/Pompeii/Sorrento Morning departure by motorcoach for Sorrento. Take the 'Highway of the Sun' motorway driving through the regions of Lazio and Campania, with a view of the Abbey of Monte Cassino. Upon arrival in Naples, there will be a short tour of the city, which includes the Castel dell'Ovo, Mergellina, Plebiscito Square, The Royal Palace, the Maschio Angioino and the Port. On your way to Pompeii, a short stop will be made to visit a coral and cameo factory. Then visit the excavations of Pompeii, the famous Roman city destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D.; followed by lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch, proceed along the panoramic road to Sorrento, a romantic town of orange and olive orchards. Tonight just relax in this town which prides itself on its luxuriant plantations. (B,L) Day 6 Sorrento Today is free to sample the charms of this beautiful city. You may want to enjoy an optional excursion to Capri, the island of dreams. A morning steamer whisks you across the blue Bay of Naples to the fabled Isle. After a scenic funicular ride and a tour of the Gardens of Augustus, there's still time for shopping before catching the steamer back to Sorrento. (B) Day 7 Sorrento Use this day at your leisure to unwind in this beautiful resort town. Visit the Correale Museum, noted for its collection of 17th and 18th century furniture and 'Capodimonte' china. Shop on the Corso Italia, or embrace the delightful southern charm of Sorrento's people from a sidewalk cafe. (B) Day 8 Sorrento/Naples to USA (or extend your stay) After breakfast, you will be transferred to Naples Airport for your return flight home, arriving the same day. (B) |
