Balance of the day at leisure. Dinner tonight will be at our hotel. Day 3 Tiberias (Mt. Tabor/Nazareth/Cana) Depart on a full day excursion, beginning at Mt. Tabor, with its spectacular view of the Sea of Galilee, and upon which stands the Church of Transfiguration. We continue to Nazareth to visit the Basilica of the Annunciation and view the Blessed Cave, where the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. We'll see Mary & Joseph's house and carpentry shop where Jesus lived for 30 years of his life. After stopping for a "Falafel" lunch, we continue to Cana where Jesus performed his first miracle of transforming water into wine. Pilgrims can renew their marriage vows here before we return to our hotel in Tiberias for dinner and overnight. Day 4 Tiberias (Capernaum/Tabgha/Sea of Galilee) After breakfast we drive to Capernaum, located on the Sea of Galilee. Capernaum was home to Jesus for many years, as well as the center of his Galilee ministry. Visit the House of St. Peter and the ruins of the ancient Synagogue where Jesus preached. Our next stop will be in Tabgha, the Primacy of St. Peter, to visit the Church of the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes. Lunch today will include "St. Peter's Fish". Enjoy a boat ride on the Lake of Galilee before returning to Tiberias and our hotel for dinner and overnight. Day 5 Tiberias/Bethlehem/Jerusalem After breakfast we drive to the Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized. We will also have the opportunity to be baptized here. Continue to Bethlehem for lunch. After lunch, visit the Church of the Nativity, the birthplace of Jesus. We continue to our hotel in Jerusalem. Dinner will be at our hotel. Day 6 Jerusalem Full day tour of Jerusalem beginning with a visit to the Mount of Olives, where we walk down the Road of Palm Sunday to the Garden of Gethsemane. Continue to the Kidron Valley and Mount Zion, where Jesus celebrated the Last Supper. We visit the Chapel of the Ascension and, in the old city of Jerusalem, we follow the Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and visit the Upper Room where Jesus instituted the Eucharist and the Priesthood. We will also see the Christian and Armenian Quarters and the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest shrine. We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Day 7 Jerusalem (Masada) Breakfast at our hotel is followed by an excursion to Masada. We depart Jerusalem and travel through the Judean Desert to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth- located 1,365 feet below sea level. Drive along the shores via Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, to Masada. Here the Zealots withstood the Roman forces for 3 years, 70-73AD. We'll ascend to the summit by cable car to visit Herod's Palaces, the baths and synagogue. En route back to Jerusalem, we'll stop at the Dead Sea, to enjoy a "swim". We return to Jerusalem for Mass and then continue to our hotel. Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant in Jerusalem. Day 8 Jerusalem/Tel Aviv to USA (or extend your stay) Morning transfer to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv for your return flight home. Meals and refreshments are served aloft. |
