Balance of afternoon and day at leisure. (B) Day 7 Thu Rome Your morning tour reveals Rome's infinite aspects and eras. Drive through Piazza della Republica and admire its Najads Fountain. Continue on Via Bissolati and Via Veneto (the Rodeo Drive of Rome) and see Palazzo Margherita (seat of the American Embassy), Aurelian Walls (3rd century A.D.), and Piazza Barberini. Pass by the Quirinale Palace, residence of the President of the Italian Republic, and then visit the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Drive past Piazza Navona, Palace of Justice, Castel Sant'Angelo, Via della Conciliazione, then visit St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. Afternoon and evening are free for independent exploration. (B) Day 8 Fri Rome Today you may want to enjoy an optional excursion to Pompeii, Capri and idyllic Sorrento with their beautiful panoramic views of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. (B) Day 9 Sat Rome/Athens Transfer to the airport in Rome for your flight to Athens. Upon arrival your local Central Holidays host will assist you with transfer to your selected hotel. This afternoon sail to Patmos, site of the Monastery of St. John the Divine and the Grotto of the Apocalypse. Optional excursion to visit these sites is available. Evening departure for Rhodes. (B,L,D) Day 13 Wed Rhodes A day on the Island of Roses, famed for its Medieval Old Town, great shopping and ancient site of the Colossus of Rhodes. Optional visits to the Temple of Athena on the majestic Acropolis of Lindos, overlooking the Bay of Paul or the Old Town and Philerimos. From July to September you may visit the Valley of Butterflies. Sail in the evening. (B,L,D) Day 14 Thu Heraklion/Santorini Morning call at Greece's largest island, Crete. Here you may visit Knossos and the Palace of King Minos or enjoy a taste of Crete. Later, you sail for the volcanic island of Santorini. Some of the villages are perched on the rim of the volcano and believed by many to be the site of the Lost Continent of Atlantis. View a breathtaking sunset before you sail later this evening.
