Day 1 Nice Pick up your rental car at Nice Airport and drive the short distance to your hotel. You'll have the day at leisure to begin discovering the beauty of the famed Cote d'Azur. Filled with outdoor markets, churches, narrow streets, red-tiled roofs, cafes, outdoor restaurants, parks and dozens of museums, Nice is bordered by the Promenade des Anglais which runs along the Mediterranean. Nice's museums include the Matisse Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Chagall Museum and the Russian Orthodox Church of St Nicholas. Day 2 Nice/Monte Carlo (approx. 30 miles) After breakfast, drive to Monaco, home to picturesque Monte Carlo. You'll pass by the scenic town of Villefrance, and in Cap Ferrat enjoy a stop at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and then continue to Beaulieu. In the Principality of Monaco, you'll see the Prince's Palace (with the changing of the guards), the Cathedral of St. Nicholas (housing Princess Grace Kelly's tomb) and the Oceanographic Museum. Stroll the main square by the famous casino in Monte Carlo, the Hotel de Paris, the Gardens and the Opera House. Drive on to Eze, a beautiful medieval village with stunning views of the Mediterranean. Overnight is at your hotel in Nice. Day 3 Nice/St Paul de Vence/Cannes/Nice (approx. 50 miles) Enjoy the beautiful drive to St. Paul de Vence, a charming hilltop village in Provence filled with art galleries, boutiques and sidewalk cafes. Continue your journey to Cannes, passing St. Raphael and St. Maxime, delightful seaside towns on the Western Mediterranean Riviera. Overnight is at your hotel in Nice. Day 4 Nice/Marseille (approx. 140 miles) After breakfast, depart Nice and drive to Marseille. Stop in the port city of Toulon and continue on to the fishing village of Cassis with its quaint harbor area where you can savor a wine tasting or take a cruise to enjoy the beautiful coastal views. Continue to Marseille and follow the Calanques de Cassis, a series of small creeks carved into the rock by the sea with small lovely beaches below them. Overnight is at your hotel in Marseille. Day 5 Marseille/Aix-en-Provence/Marseille (approx. 20 miles) Marseille, France's second largest city, is a modern cosmopolitan city which offers fabulous restaurants, nightclubs, theaters and numerous museums. Your visit should include the old quarter of Panier Palais de Longchamp, the Cathedral of the Major, the ruins of Jardin, and the 19th century Notre Dame de la Garde. Drive the short distance to Aix and enjoy the Cathedral St. Sauveur, the old town, the Atelier Cezanne or shop in the elegant boutiques in the Mazarin quarter. Overnight is at your hotel in Marseille. Day 6 Marseille/Avignon (approx. 60 miles) Today's drive will take you to Les Baux de Provence, one of the most beautiful villages of France. Enjoy the 16th century hotels Chateau des Baux, Hotel Jean de Brion, Hotel de Manville, and the 12th and 16th century Church of Saint Vincent. Continue on to Saint Remy de Provence, an historic village built on one of the oldest archaeological sites in Europe. Overnight is at your hotel in Avignon. Days 7 & 8 Avignon A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Avignon is an interesting town full of full of history, life, art, music and activity. Wander the narrow streets to discover the town or see the Pope's Palace and the Pont d'Avignon. Your overnight stay is in Avignon. Day 9 Avignon/Paris After breakfast, drive the short distance to the TGV railroad station and drop off your car and take the TGV train to Paris for your overnight. Day 10 Paris to USA (or extend your stay) After breakfast, depart for the airport for your return flight home. |
