THE LUBERON HILLTOP VILLAGES (half day) Take the high-speed (TGV) train from the Paris Gare de Lyon station to Avignon. Your overnight stay is in Avignon. Day 3 After breakfast, enjoy a visit of the Popes' Palace (with audio guide). Built between 1335 and 1352, it is the largest gothic palace in the world. You'll see the courtyards, cloisters, reception halls, chapels, the private papal apartments and the priceless frescoes. Continue on to Les Baux de Provence, a picturesque medieval village located atop a rocky outcrop. You'll have time for lunch (on your own). In the afternoon, stop at Les Antiques of Saint Remy de Provence, the triumphal arch and mausoleum that has remained intact over the years. Located in a field of olive trees, the surrounding landscape has been painted several times by Vincent Van Gogh. Continue on to Oppedele- Vieux, a quaint picturesque hilltop village that's built high on a rocky outcrop and surrounded by lush vegetation and thick forests. Enjoy a visit to Roussillon, considered one of the most beautiful villages of France.
