Day 1 Sat Depart USA Evening departure. Meals and refreshments are served on board. Day 2 Sun Cairo Upon arrival in Cairo, you'll be met and taken to your hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure. Day 3 Mon Cairo Full day city sightseeing including the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, with the world's largest collection of Pharaonic artifacts and treasures from Tutankhamen's tomb. Continue to the Citadel to view wonderful Islamic structures, including the Muhammad Ali Mosque. In Old Cairo, we visit Al Moallaka Church (Hanging Church) and Ben Ezra Synagogue. End this city tour at Khan el-Khalili, Cairo's labyrinthine shopping Mecca. Lunch is included during tour. (B,L) Day 4 Tue Cairo (Giza Pyramids, Memphis & Sakkara) This full day guided tour takes you to the Giza complex, including the Pyramid of Khufu (the Great Pyramid), the only remaining monument of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the Great Sphinx. After Giza, proceed to Memphis, where we tour the "open air museum", site of the Colossus of Ramses the Second and the Alabaster Sphinx. The visit to Sakkara will include the Step Pyramid, the first pyramid ever built. You will subsequently view the Pyramid of Teti. Time permitting we will stop at a school of carpet weaving. Lunch is included during tour. (B,L) Day 5 Wed Cairo / Aswan / Cruise (Aswan) After a short flight you will arrive in Aswan, where you will be transferred to the M/S Mojito or M/S Monaco. After lunch on board enjoy a morning tour of the High Dam, a project aimed at preventing the Nile River's flooding. Also stop at the Granite Quarries, which in antiquity furnished the stone for the statues, obelisks, and shrines of ancient Egypt. See the Unfinished Obelisk and the Temple of Philae, dedicated to Isis, Goddess of Magic. The temple had to be relocated block by block to its current location because of the rising waters caused by the dams built on the Nile. In the evening, after dinner, there will be a very special Nubian Folkloric Show. Optional Sound & Light Show at Philae Temple. Overnight in Aswan. (B,L,D) Day 6 Thu Cruise (Aswan / Kom Ombo / Edfu / Esna) Sail for Kom Ombo where you will visit the temples of Sobek and Haroeris. Sail to Edfu, where you travel by horse-drawn carriage to the Temple of Horus, the Falcon God. Of all the temples that remain in Egypt, this is the most completely preserved. Sail to Esna, and after dinner enjoy a Galabeya Party. Overnight on board ship in Esna. (B,L,D) Day 7 Fri Cruise (Asna / Luxor) Early morning arrival in Luxor where you will visit the necropolis on the Nile's West Bank that includes the Valley of the Kings & Queens, the vast City of the Dead where magnificent tombs were carved into the desert rocks. These tombs were richly decorated and filled with treasures for the afterlife of generations of Pharaohs. The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut (ancient Egypt's only female Pharaoh) rises out of the desert plain as if nature herself had built this extraordinary monument. Your road back to the Nile passes by the famed Colossi of Memnon. In the evening enjoy an optional Sound & Light Show at Karnak Temple. Overnight in Luxor on board ship. (B,L,D) Day 8 Sat Cruise (Luxor / Cairo) After disembarkation, you will visit the Temple of Karnak and the great "Hypostyle Hall", an incredible forest of giant pillars. Proceed to the Temple of Luxor, dedicated to Amun-Ra and then to the Luxor Airport for a short flight to Cairo, where you will be transferred to your hotel. A fitting farewell to Egypt might be the astounding optional Sound and Light at the Pyramids. (B) Day 9 Sun Cairo / Amman Morning transfer to Cairo International Airport for your flight to Amman, where you will be met by your representative and start with a city tour of Amman, visiting the Citadel, the Roman theatre, new and old parts of Amman, and the Gold Souk. After the tour, transfer to the hotel in Amman for overnight. (B) Day 10 Mon Amman / Petra Travel to Petra, the Rose Red City of the 1st Century Nabateans. After a walk or horse-ride through the 1 mile Siq (an immense crack in the sandstone mountains) you will arrive at Petra's most impressive site, The Treasury. Carved out of solid rock on the side of the mountain, it is surrounded on both sides by hundreds of carved structures, soaring temples, elaborate royal tombs, Roman theatre and burial chambers. For those young at heart, a climb will take them to the Monastery above the mountains, with a wonderful view over Wadi Araba. Overnight in Petra. (B) Day 11 Tue Petra / Madaba / Mt. Nebo/ Allen Bridge / Jerusalem This morning, en route to Jerusalem, you will visit the mosaic city of Madaba, where the oldest map of the holy land exists on the floor of Saint George Cathedral. Continue your travel via Mt. Nebo, the traditional burial site of Moses. Continue to the Allenby Bridge to cross the border into Israel. On the Israeli side, you will be met by your representative who will transfer you to your hotel in Jerusalem. (B) Day 12 Wed Jerusalem (Bethlehem) Panoramic overview from the Mount of Olives of Jerusalem new city and the Temple Mount Esplanade of the old city. Travel along the Kidron Valley to the Garden of Gethsemane and the walls of the city. Proceed via the Armenian Quarter and enter the Western (Wailing) Wall square. Continue via the local Bazaar to the Christian Quarter, the Stations of the Cross (Via Dolorosa) and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre - the site of the crucifixion. Walk along the 1700-year old Byzantine main street, the Cardo. According to Christian tradition, Bethlehem is where Jesus was born. We will drive there and visit the cave where Jesus was born and the Manger Square, the Greek and the Catholic Church and the Milk Grotto. Overview the Shepherds' Fields and visit the church. Return to Jerusalem. (B) Day 13 Thu Jerusalem (Tiberias) Travel north along Israel's scenic plain of Armageddon, to Nazareth to visit the Church of Annunciation and the Church of St. Joseph's carpentry. Continue to Kafer Cana to view the Mount of Beatitudes and the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fish at Tabgha. Stop by the ruins of the ancient synagogue at Capernaum, overlooking Tiberias to the baptismal site on the Jordan River. Return to Jerusalem via scenic Mt. Tabor, site of transfiguration. Overnight in Jerusalem. (B) Day 14 Fri Jerusalem (Massada, Dead Sea) Descend to the Judean Desert via the inn of the Good Samaritan. Ascend Massada by cable car to tour the 2000-year-old fortress and palace built by King Herod. Drive via Ein Gedi and Qumran, overview the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Float in the mineral-rich Dead Sea - at 400m. below sea level, the lowest place on earth. Drive back to Jerusalem with view of Jericho and the old Roman Road. Return to Jerusalem. (B Day 15 Sat Jerusalem / USA (or extend your stay) Transfer to the Ben Gurion Airport for your flight home, arriving the same day. Meals and refreshments served on board. (B) |
