An introduction to the secrets of Provençal cooking, this course lets you discover the delights of Provence and its fragrant herb-scented hills and learn all the secrets of a cuisine prepared with produce from the local Provençal markets. You’ll cook in a superbly refurbished house with its own country garden that provides all the herbs and vegetables used in the fabulous dishes you will prepare and savor by the fireside or in the shade of the garden in the summer. Enjoy visits to the Sanary and Bandol markets, visits to local vineyards (with wine tastings), plus the fascinating story of Provence as told by Rene Berard.
The Hostellerie Berard is an elegant family-run hotel set in the enchanting ancient hilltop village of La Cadiere d’Azur in Provence, dominating the fertile vineyards and orchards of Bandol on one side and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea on the other. The hotel, celebrated for its outstanding haute cuisine, is located in a lovingly restored 11th century monastery grouped around a heated outdoor swimming pool. The hotel’s 36 rooms and 4 suites are decorated in the finest Provençal tradition and equipped with all modern amenities including TV, air conditioning, direct lines and private bath.

Day 1 Thu-3 Sat Paris
Arrive in Paris and transfer (on your own) to your hotel. The day is at leisure to begin exploring this fascinating city. You have three full days at leisure. On the day of your choice take the half-day guided tour of Paris, which will take you to the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Hotel de Ville, the Louvre, the Place Vendome, the Opera, Concorde, Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe, Tour Eiffel, Trocadero, the Sacre-Coeur, Place du Tertre and Montmartre.

Day 4 Sun Paris/Provence
Transfer on your own to the rail station in Paris to catch your train to Marseille. Upon arrival you will pick up your rental car at the rail station and drive to La Cadiere d'Azur and check in at the Hostellerie Berard. On your first night, enjoy a gourmet welcome dinner at the hotel. (B,D)

Day 5 Mon-8 Thu Provence
While at the Hostellerie Berard you will enjoy learning the art of Provençal cooking with the four-day Art de Vivre culinary classes hosted by Master Chef Rene Berard. You will make daily visits to the local markets and do some wine tasting. Also, you will enjoy the tastes of the region with daily lunches included in the package. You will also have plenty of free time to explore the Provence region on your own with your rental car. We recommend visits to Marseille, Arles, Nimes and, of course, Avignon. Make sure to check out the lavender fields as well. (B,L)

Day 9 Fri Return to USA (or extend your stay)
After breakfast you will drive your rental car back to the airport of Marseille to catch your flight back to the USA, arriving the same day. (B)
