Day 7 Thu Kalambaka/Meteora/Athens

As you ponder how these centuries old structures were built, pause to view the priceless, exquisite specimens of Byzantine art that they protect. Return to Athens via Trikala, Lamia and Thermopylae (see Leonida's monument) and the spa of Kammena Vourla. Overnight in Athens. (B,L)
Day 8 Fri Cruise/Mykonos
After breakfast, transfer to the port in Piraeus for embarkation on your cruise ship and sail to Mykonos, known for its white-washed buildings, sidewalk cafes and shops. An optional shore excursion is offered to picturesque Hora, the island's capital (B,L,D)
Day 9 Sat Kusadasi/Patmos
Very early morning arrival at the Turkish port of Kusadasi where an optional excursion to ancient Ephesus and the house of the Virgin Mary is available. Around noon sail for your next port of call, Patmos, where you are scheduled to arrive in the mid-afternoon. Here you may visit (optional) the Monastery of St. John the Divine and The Grotto of the Apocalypse where he received the Revelation that forms the Last Book of the New Testament. Alternatively you may opt for an island tour or spend the afternoon relaxing at a lovely beach. Depart Patmos in the late evening. (B,L,D)
Day 10 Sun Heraklion/Santorini
Morning call at Heraklion (Crete), home of the great Minoan civilization and the mythological home of Zeus. Enjoy an optional shore excursion to the Knossos excavations, dating back to 4000 B.C. The Palace, decorated with frescoes, houses beautiful interiors, courtyards, and shrines. This is an astounding visit. Should you prefer something less grandiose but perhaps more 'palatable' another optional excursion would have you visit many quaint rural villages, see beautiful vineyards, stop at a winery to taste their wines and, at tavern, sample an assortment of Cretan snacks and enjoy live music. Return to Heraklion to rejoin your ship, and sail for the volcanic island of Santorini, perhaps the most breathtaking of all the Greek Isles. Optional shore excursions are available. Visit the town of Thira, where white-washed houses, narrow streets, open-air cafes and glittering boutiques, cling to steep cliffs. Santorini is believed by many to be the site of the Lost Continent of Atlantis. In the evening, resume your cruise. (B,L,D)
Day 11 Mon Cruise/Piraeus/USA
This morning disembark in Piraeus and transfer to Athens Airport for your return flight home. (B)
