Day 1 Depart USA Evening departure. Meals and refreshments served on board. Day 2 Tel Aviv Upon your arrival to Ben Gurion Airport, you are met and begin your Holy Land discovery by stopping at biblical Joppa (Jaffa),the port that Jonah set sail to escape from the Lord and where the Apostle Peter had his rooftop revelation. Continue to Tel Aviv for dinner and overnight. Day 3 Tel Aviv/Dead Sea Travel to Neot Kedumim, the unique Biblical Landscape Reserve! Next, travel to the Valley of Elah, setting of David and Goliath's battle. In the afternoon visit Masada, King Herod the Great's fortress-palace. Learn the story of the zealots who chose death rather than submit to the Romans (73AD). Relax in the indescribable buoyancy of the Dead Sea! Dinner and overnight by the Dead Sea. Day 4 Dead Sea/Ein Gedi/Qumran/Beit She'an/Ein Harod/Tiberias Head north to Ein Gedi Nature Reserve and the caves where David took refuge from Saul. Visit nearby Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Continue to Beit She'an, the Decapolis city, where King Saul and his sons' bodies were pinned to the city walls. Stop at nearby Ein Harod where God reduced Gideon's army to a few valiant men who later defeated the Midianites. Evening arrival in Tiberias for dinner and overnight. Day 5 Tiberias (Capernaum/Tabgha/Nazareth/Yardenit) Morning boat cruise across the Sea of Galilee. Dock at Kibbutz Nof Ginosar to view the remains of a fishing boat dating from Jesus time, called Jesus Boat. Ascend Mount of the Beatitudes and meditate on the words Jesus spoke to the multitudes. Next, visit Capernaum, center of Jesus' preaching, Tabgha, site of the multiplication of the fish and loaves, then travel to Nazareth, boyhood home of Jesus, to visit Mary's Well and the Synagogue church believed built on the ancient synagogue where Jesus attended. After Nazareth stop at the Precipice, where the mob wanted to throw Jesus off the cliff. End this excursion at Yardenit, a baptismal site built where the Sea of Galilee flows into the Jordan River. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias. Day 6 Tiberias/Muhraka/Megiddo/Caesarea Maritima/Jerusalem Depart Tiberias for Muhraka atop Mount Carmel. Here it is believed Elijah asserted the Lord's supremacy over Ba'al's false prophets. Drive to Megiddo, focal point of the Book of Revelation. Next, visit Caesarea Maritima. See Roman remains of a theater, port and a multi-media show. Also, view the fortress and another of Herod's great masterpieces, the aqueduct. Finally ascend to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight. Day 7 Jerusalem (Bethlehem) Begin with a visit to Yad Vashem, Israel's memorial to the Holocaust. Spend time on the Hall of Remembrance and the Avenue of the Righteous, where trees have been planted to remember the many Christians who saved Jews during WWII. Next, see the Scale Model of Jerusalem at the time of Christ, the Shrine of the Book (it houses some Dead Sea Scrolls' manuscripts). Later travel to Bethlehem, birthplace of King David and Jesus. Tour the Church of the Nativity and manger area. Also included is a special visit to Shepherds' Fields (YMCA site) overlooking the fields of Boaz. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. Day 8 Jerusalem Today we begin at the traditional site of the Upper Room (cenacle). Enter the Old City Jewish Quarter, see the Cardo, the ancient marketplace. Visit the Burnt House, once belonging to a temple priest. Walk to the Third Temple Institute. Here rabbis, goldsmiths, weavers and artisans are creating Temple utensils based on Biblical, Talmudic and archeological research for use in the future Third Temple. At the Southern Excavations, stand on stairs that Jesus would have used to the Temple. Subject to security, ascend to the Temple Mount. Next, view the remaining Western Wall and, subject to availability, the Rabbinic Tunnel by which priests traveled to the Temple. Later explore the new excavation of the Pool of Siloam at the time of Jesus. After dinner, enjoy a drive around the Old City. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. Day 9 Jerusalem Enjoy the view of the Old City from the summit of the Mount of Olives. Walk down Palm Sunday road to the church of Dominus Flevit, where tradition holds that Jesus wept over His beloved Jerusalem. Descent to the Garden of Gethsemane. Cross the Kidron Valley and ascend Mount Zion to visit St. Peter in Gallicantu, the traditional site where Peter denied Jesus three times. Next, view the Pool of Bethesda and the lovely Crusader Church of St. Anne. Continue to the Lithostrotos of Antonia Fortress. View the Arch of Ecce Homo and then follow the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Celebrate communion and enjoy a time of fellowship at the Garden Tomb. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner at your hotel in Jerusalem. Day 10 Jerusalem/Tel Aviv to USA (or extend your stay) Morning transfer to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport for your return flight home. Meals and refreshments are served aloft. |
