Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport, greeted by your English speaking guide, and transferred via deluxe air conditioned motor coach to the beautiful beach town of Varadero. Your action begins right away with your first round of golf at the Varadero Golf Club which is surrounded by the island's natural beauty on one side and the sea on the other. Amazing moments continue with lunch this afternoon at the Xanadu mansion (Casa Dupont), including a welcome drink on the rooftop bar of the mansion with spectacular views overlooking the worldrenowned beaches of Varadero and the enticing azure sea. Power-up with breakfast at your hotel before your morning round of golf at the golf club. After golf you will have time to freshen up before we begin our discovery of Cuba. We depart for matanzas, known as the "City of Bridges" for the 17 bridges located throughout the town. Upon arrival, you will savor an authentic Cuban meal at Paladar San Severino, a privately owned restaurant. Next it's time to delve into the city on an interactive guided tour where you can engage with locals as part of your people-to-people program. Here you will enjoy time in the museo San Severino, tour the Ediciones Vigia to see how books were made in years past, and visit the museo farmacéutico. return to Varadero for dinner at your hotel and then you’re on your own to explore the city, its night life and interact with the Cuban people. Later, enjoy time at finca Coincidencia with time to interact with the farm's owners and to share a flavorful lunch made with fresh, farm-to-table ingredients. Visit an art school after lunch and have an exchange with students and instructors. Wake with breakfast at your hotel before heading on to Havana for the next part of your adventure in Cuba. first on the agenda today is a visit to finca Yoandra in Havana to learn about their sustainable agriculture outreach project. Sip on a Cuban cocktail while you tour the medicinal gardens and interact with the representatives from community projects for children and the elderly. Then, enjoy lunch at the finca’s privately owned restaurant or “paladar” Il Divino. Next, meet with environmental specialists at the foundation of Nature and the Humanities (fANJ) and learn about current environmental clean-up efforts. As the day continues, prepare to be awed by the extraordinary, innovative percussion sounds during a special dance performance by Habana Compas dance troupe. After the lively show, check-in to your hotel in Havana – Hotel melia Cohiba. more one-of-a-kind moments are yours for the taking tonight as you meet in the lobby with your fellow travelers, hop in a classic American car, and head to dinner in a local paladar. After breakfast at your Havana hotel, depart for old Havana, a UNESCo World Heritage Site, and explore its four main plazas. Here you will learn about the challenges of renovating the city’s exquisite historic buildings, and see some of the area’s elegant restorations as you stroll the charming cobblestone streets. After a delicious lunch at El figaro paladar, you will tour a local cigar factory to see firsthand how they grow, dry, and prepare the tobacco before hand-rolling the famous Cuban cigars. Next visit Proyecto Kcho and see the works of one of Cuba's acclaimed artists, Kcho, world-renowned for his monumental and evocative sculptures, paintings, and prints inspired by the island nation he calls home. The day's activities continue as we head towards finca Vigia (Lookout farm) to visit Ernest Hemingway’s winter home from 1939 to 1960. See the author’s 9,000 volume library, his yacht Pilar as well as the typewriter on which he wrote some of his greatest works (for Whom the Bell Tolls and The old man and the Sea) while learning about his life here during a talk with a docent. This evening we will share in a farewell dinner before returning to your hotel with plenty of free time to enjoy Havana's lively nightlife that beckons with invigorating dancing and music at every turn.
