Day 1 - SUN TEL AVIV
Transfer from Ben Gurion International Airport to your hotel in Tel
Aviv. (D)
Day 2 - MON TEL AVIV/CAESAREA/MEGIDDO/HAIFA/ACRE/GALILEE
Depart Tel Aviv and drive along the coastal plain to Caesarea, seaside
capital of Judea under Roman rule. Excavation sites in the ancient city
stretch more than 125 acres and unearth Caesarea's history from the
Hellenistic period to the Crusader period. Continue to Megiddo, now a
national park that is recognized as the site of Armageddon in the Christian
Book of Revelations. Here, view the footprint of a city that first emerged
5,000 years ago. In Haifa, stroll the immaculate Persian Gardens at the
Bahai Shrine and Gardens before continuing to Acre to visit the ancient
seaport city on Sea of Galilee. Then journey to Lower Galilee to check in at
Kibbutz Lavi. (B, D)
Day 3 - TUE GALILEE/TIBERIAS/CAPERNAUM/BANIAS/GALILEE
This day
begins fifteen minutes to the east with a short tour of Tiberias, Israel's main vacation destination for locals. Then take a boat ride across the Sea of
Galilee to Capernaum, a town written about in scripture, to visit the remains
of a 2nd century synagogue. Proceed to Tabgha, the site of the Miracle of
the Loaves and Fishes and visit the Church of the Multiplication with its 4th
century mosaic floor. Continue to the Mount of Beatitudes, the place where
Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount. Finally drive to the Banias
springs and waterfalls and tour the soaring Golan Heights plateau before
returning to Kibbutz Lavi. (B, D)
Day 4 - WED GALILEE/NAZARETH/BEIT SHEAN/JERUSALEM
Drive to
Nazareth via Cana of Galilee to explore the Basilica of Annunciation, St.
Joseph's Workshop, and Mary's Well. In Yardenit, witness the celebrated
baptismal place where the Jordan River exits the Sea of Galilee for the
Dead Sea. Continue to Beit Shean, a recently excavated city that holds
relics from its Egyptian, Greek, and Roman occupations. Then drive along
the winding, rugged Jordan River to Jerusalem. (B, D)
Day 5 - THU JERUSALEM (OLD CITY)
Travel to the Mount of Olives for an
unmatched panorama of the city that has been at the center of three faiths
for more than 2,000 years -- Jerusalem. Visit the Church of All Nations
which enshrines a slab of bedrock where Jesus is said to have prayed
before his arrest. On Mount Zion, see King David's Tomb, draped in azure
and gold, and tour the vaulted Room of the Last Supper. Then you will enter
the Old City and visit Herodian Cardo; stand before Temple Mount; touch
the Western Wall; find treasures at the Oriental Bazaar; and pace Via
Dolorosa on the way to Christianity's most scared pilgrimage site - the
Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Finally visit the Garden Tomb, believed by
some Christians to be where Jesus was interred and resurrected. (B, D)
Day 6 - FRI JERUSALEM (NEW CITY)/BETHLEHEM/JERUSALEM
Explore
the neighborhood of Ein Karem in southwestern Jerusalem, the birthplace
of John the Baptist in Christian dogma. While walking its cobbled street,
you'll visit the Church of the Visitation which was built against the rock that
sheltered St. John from King Herod's army. Then proceed to Yad Vashem, a
Holocaust memorial and research center. Next see the legendary Dead Sea
Scrolls and a miniature model of Jerusalem during the Second Temple
period at the Israel Museum. Finally, tour the Church of the Nativity in
Bethlehem. (B, D)
Day 7 - SAT JERUSALEM/DEAD SEA/MASSADA/JERUSALEM
See where
the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in Qumran, an ancient city perched
along the shores of the Dead Sea. Continue along this land-locked, ultrasaline
lake at the lowest point on Earth, and you will see Massada rising on
a plateau, the last stronghold of the Jews after the destruction of the
Second Temple in 70 A.D. Ascend to Massada by cable car and enjoy the
Judean Desert before returning to Jerusalem. (B, D)
Day 8 - SUN JERUSALEM TO USA (OR EXTEND YOUR STAY)
Transfer to Ben
Gurion International Airport for your departure. (B)
