• Soft-sided luggage or duffels are preferable to hard luggage for storage on safari vehicles within East Africa. Large suitcases of dimensions greater than 24"x 17"x 7" are impossible to store in vehicles and on aircraft and should not be used.

Have a splendid morning at leisure and in the afternoon depart from Arusha for Lake Manyara. Pass through the Maasai Steppe with its picturesque African villages and its maize, coffee, and banana plantations. At the town of Makuyuni, turn northwest and continue the journey up through a scenic ridge that leads to your lodge, perched on the edge of the Rift Valley with stunning views over distant Lake Manyara. Enjoy a game drive through Lake Manyara National Park and see the stunning wildlife and scenery. In the early afternoon, depart from Lake Manyara and travel northwest across the highlands. Pass through wheat fields and coffee plantations, and then enter Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Here you will find the vast plains of Serengeti National Park. Keep your camera ready to snap pictures of the abundant wildlife as your make your way into the park. (B,L,D)
Enjoy the morning and afternoon on exciting game drives through Serengeti National Park. Meaning “endless plains” in the Maasai language, the Serengeti hosts the largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world. From January to March, millions of wildebeests followed by hundreds of thousands of other plains game make the 300 mile round-trip trek from Tanzania to Kenya. Travel across the rolling plains towards the Ngorongoro Crater. Stop at Olduvai Gorge, named for the wild sisal plant, called “oltupai” by the Maasai people. This steep ravine that separates Serengeti National Park from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area has offered up fossils from 5 million years ago. It is here that Dr. Louis Leakey and his wife discovered Australopithecus Boisei, an important link in the development of early man. Learn about the archeological legacy of Old Uvia Gorge at the museum before arriving at your lodge situated high along the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. (B,L,D)
A highlight awaits you this morning as you depart to explore what is commonly referred to as the world’s largest wildlife zoo. Descend through the early morning mist some 2,000 feet into the crater. Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct areas, including forested areas, swamps, lakes, springs, open grassland, and some sandy dunes. With more than 30,000 resident animals, it is a simply unforgettable wildlife experience. After lunch at the lodge, enjoy the balance of the day at leisure. (B,L,D)
Head away from the spectacular eco-system of the Ngorongoro Crater and venture out on a drive through the highlands towards Tarangire National Park. Pass through waving wheat fields and lush green coffee plantations before descending into the reserve.
