After breakfast depart for a half day (3 hour) classic city tour. Buenos Aires overflows with riches—historic buildings, excellent food, diverse neighborhoods, beautiful parks, museums, theaters and much more. We begin at Plaza de Mayo, the historical, political and cultural hub of the city. Surrounding the plaza are the Casa Rosada, the palatial home and offices of the President, the Cabinet and Metropolitan Cathedral, where Jose de San Martin, Argentina’s National Hero, is buried. He was the pioneering leader in the independence movement not only of Argentina, but of all the South American countries under Spain’s colonization. We continue down Avenida de Mayo, filled with a variety of architectural styles, wide avenues and lush green areas. We will see Buenos Aires’ famous icon, the Obelisque, and continue through one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, San Telmo, including its popular Plaza Dorrego. This square is filled with tango parlors (tanguerias), restaurants and bars. On weekends, there are exciting “street” dancers, willing subjects of great photos for a small donation. As we continue through Buenos Aires’ other storied neighborhoods you will pass typical cantinas (small restaurants) as well as elegant mansions, beautiful parks and massive churches. You are returned to the hotel or can continue your explorations and an exciting evening out in Buenos Aires! (B)
Early transfer to the local airport to board your flight to Puerto Iguazu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. An unforgettable 3 hours await you! We will be exploring the Brazilian side of the 275 waterfalls of the Iguazu River, which offers better panoramic views of this nearly 2-mile spectacular creation of nature. In the morning, depart from your hotel, crossing the border en-route to the Brazilian city of Foz de Iguazu. Once in the National Park, disembark at the Cascades Trail, the moderate walk over footbridges that takes you high above the river. From here you’ll have great views of the Isla San Martin, Three Musketeers and other phenomenal waterfalls. Also admire the cloud of mist, perpetually adorned with a glittering rainbow, rising 100 feet above the river from the force of the Water. Of course, wildlife is included-- brilliant butterflies, colorful birds and pesty coatis (long-nosed raccoon-like mammals) who will steal your snacks, guaranteed. There is also a glasspaneled elevator for a quick trip down and back up for additional views. Last stop if you’re interested—a small shop for keepsakes – before we transfer back to your hotel. (B)
Day 4 - IGUAZU
Gear up for another exciting day at the Park from the Argentine side which is closer to the majority of the Falls! After breakfast, we’ll depart from your hotel, drive to Argentina’s National Park and arrive at the Central Station meeting point. From here, an open air, narrow gauge Waterfalls Train runs through the forest, alive with flora and fauna, and includes stops at Falls Station or Devil’s Gorge Station for a choice of different trails and longer catwalks. You’ll enjoy these floating steel footbridges where you can get up close to a portion of the Devil’s Throat, the most spectacular of all the Falls, and view Rio Iguazu Inferior Canyon. You will gain a much better understanding of the immensity of the Falls from this top-down vantage point. We’ll spend 6 hours at the Falls (both Parks are UNESCO World Heritage Sites), so you will have plenty of time to explore, take photos and soak in the natural beauty. We return to the hotel in the evening for some R&R. (B)
